TESTING & CERTIFICATION
- EFL “Certified Green”: Masco’s energy efficiency certification program for new homes that provides third-party verification of a home’s energy efficiency. This program focuses on the science of building, treating a home as a “system of systems” that work together. EFL is focused on “Green” aspects of the home, designed to provide more comfort and cost-saving benefits than a conventional, code-built home.
- EPA Energy Star: The EPA’s green home certification program focuses on the energy that a home uses. Energy Star qualified homes are independently verified to meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, measured by a HERS rating and a door blower test.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- Energy Efficiency: characteristic of a product or system that uses less energy to obtain the same service.
- Tight Construction: Special framing techniques such as a continuous air barrier and sealing of penetrations that help reduce leaks and drafts.
- Improved Thermal Systems: Enhanced insulation techniques that help to minimize the loss of heat and air conditioning through voids and gaps. Higher thermal properties (R-value) add to energy efficiency.
- Enhanced HVAC System: System has been “right-sized” to fit the home’s needs, taking into consideration the enhanced insulation and smarter duct design found in the “Certified Green” home, saving money and energy.

Indoor AIR Quality
- Fresh Air Ventilation: This system delivers filtered fresh air to help reduce dust, odors and indoor contaminants for improved indoor air quality.
- Internal Moisture Management: Vents, pressure balancing, fresh air ventilation and enhanced HVAC equipment work to reduce moisture and maintain a level of comfort in the home.
- Low VOC Paint & Carpet: using paint and carpet with low levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) helps to reduce indoor pollutants and limit substances that can be released into the home.
WATER EFFICIENCY
- Low-flow Faucets & Showerheads: these products use some of the latest technologies to help conserve water without greatly compromising performance, therefore minimizing overall household water consumption.
- Rain-gauge irrigation: Where included, irrigation systems are programmable and have a moisture sensor to allow you to control when and for how long your irrigation system uses energy and water. The moisture sensor will immediately shut off the system if it measures a certain amount of moisture in the air, saving water when it is not needed.
- Energy Star appliances, an efficient water heater, faucets, showerheads and toilets help to conserve energy and water in the home.
